Santa Rita receiver Holliday commits to ASU
Tucson Santa Rita wide receiver J.J. Holliday, who had one of his best games at Sun Devil Stadium in the Class 4A Division II championship, gave Arizona State a commitment to play football during his recruiting trip this weekend.
Holliday, 6-foot, 160 pounds who runs 40 yards in 4.41 seconds, caught 54 passes for 1,100 yards and 13 touchdowns this season.
“I just liked everything, how they treated me from Day One,”
said Holliday, who had more than 100 receiving yards in a state final loss to Scottsdale Notre Dame Prep.
Former Peoria receiver T.J. Simpson was Holliday’s host.
“I like that it’s still close to home and still far enough away,”
Holliday said. “If I need anything, I can still drive home. The coaches were all down to Earth.”
Holliday said he was also offered scholarships by Utah, Air Force, Idaho, Wyoming and Colorado State.
